While the first Google Play Edition tablet, the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition was announced earlier today, Sony has also announced the first Google Play Edition phablet device – the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition, which is known to be the biggest device from Sony with a striking design, is now available running stock Android KitKat v4.4. Like the other Google Play Edition, the hardware of the device remains unchanged. The smartphone has a massive 6.44 inch full HD display which uses Sony’s OptiContrast and X-Reality technology.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition is powered by a 2.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor along with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The processor also has support for 4G LTE communications. The phone is equipped with a rear facing 8 MP Exmor RS sensor besides a front facing 2 MP camera. The device has superior water and dust resistance. The smartphone is priced at $649 for the unlocked version.
