After teasing a new device which is “something we’ve never seen before”, Amazon has officially unveiled its first smartphone – the Amazon Fire Phone, which was one of the most talked-about device in this quarter.
Amazon has announced the launch of the Amazon Fire Phone with a unique 3D effect and blazing specs. The device has four front facing infra-red cameras which constantly track your face and create a depth map to accurately detect orientation which can then be used for features like automatic scrolling. As for the 3D effect, it is a bit more like the parallax effect seen on the iOS 8.
However, the Amazon Fire Phone has a 4.7 inch HD display which is said to be capable of providing 590 nits of brightness, thus providing excellent outdoor visibility. The smartphone is powered by the quad core Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz along with 2 GB of RAM and a massive 64 GB internal storage. There is also the Adreno 330 GPU.
The Amazon Fire Phone is equipped with a 13 MP rear facing camera with f/2.0 and OIS technology, which according to Amazon makes the camera better than the iPhone 5S and the Galaxy S5. The smartphone runs on forked version of Android with UI customization which looks fairly similar to the Kindle tablets.
Amazon has also launched the Mayday and Firefly services. The Mayday customer support feature connects the user with an Amazon representative to solve an issue with the handset. Interestingly, the company claims that the average response time of the service is just 9.75 seconds. Similarly, the Firefly service lets the user recognize to various objects using the camera. It can be used to identify a book, QR codes and even recognize songs.
