Boeing has selected Android over other operating systems to power the entertainment system in its new 787 Dreamliner. According to Mark Larson, technical manager at Boeing’s Dreamliner Gallery, all 787s now in production will be fitted with Android-based servers and touchscreens.
Panasonic is said to have already built the first 787-certified Android touchscreens, which are available from economy seats to first-class suites. The new touchscreen panels are less reflective of ambient light as they have a wider viewing angle than today’s screens. Panasonic and Thales are the two companies that’ll produce the screens ranging from 7 inches to 17 inches.

Larson goes on to say that the business and first class will be fitted with larger screens and they will be non-touch because you can’t reach them, but instead they will be powered by gesture control and can be controlled by simple gestures.
