With a lot of complaints from customers regarding frequent call drops, the government is planning to order operators to return the money charged for the dropped calls.

According to sources, the government is looking at avenues to order operators to compensate users for the dropped calls or throw in extra airtime to compensate for deficient services. While the adoption rates have risen exponentially and even the call rates have dropped, service quality has been deteriorating over the years.

Speaking about the plans, a key official in the telecom ministry, said, “The idea is to ensure that a customer is not made to pay for a deficiency on the part of an operator. The ministry is working aggressively on the issue, especially as call drops have become a regular phenomenon in choked networks of metros.”
