It’s been so long since every smartphone and tablet comes with an ambient light sensor to adjust brightness automatically. Even though setting the lowest brightness on Android will still look brighter for you at night and you will start wondering that isn’t there a way to lower the brightness below 0% because reading eBooks, emails and scrolling through various websites and feeds is too difficult to read at night and doesn’t ease your eyes.

While there are numerous reasons behind it, we found a way to do so. There is an app on Google PlayStore named WellBrightness (-78% ~ 100%). Wellbrightness is an app that is used to dim your mobile screen luminosity from -78% to 100% giving you ultra-low brightness on your mobile. To be more specific, you can set brightness levels below 0%. Follow this short steps to get it.

Step 1:

Open PlayStore and hit search, type WellBrightness and tap the 1st result. Alternately, you can download it from here.

Step 2:

It’s simple, just set the brightness you want by dragging the slider and viola you have done it. You can tick the checkbox to ‘Auto’ which disables the WellBrightness.

See the difference

You might be feeling happier saying “wow, an app that lets us set negative brightness, this will even save a bit of my battery too, thanks a lot, mate”. No, it’s not. On the downside, there will be no effect on the battery if you lower the brightness using this app. It does not tweak into system files to get negative brightness, but it rather reduces the brightness by placing a dark overlay transparent layer on the top of the entire screen. Pretty smart, eh?

You can set it to lowest (-78% maximum) brightness however you cannot be able to see the text on your phone because anything below 20% is not suitable to read. If you have tried to set it below 20% and can’t get back to default brightness, just reboot your phone.
