With call drops becoming a major menace to subscribers, the government has decided to take a stand and impose a penalty on the operators.

Telecom regulator TRAI has proposed to set a penalty of Re. 1 on telecom operators for deficient services like call drops. Interestingly, the penalty could be paid to the subscriber as compensation. The policy, which would be applicable on all operators throughout the country, is expected to be announced this week.

The detailed knowledge on how to measure, and account for, a dropped call will be made public when TRAI officially releases the new regulation. The issue was put on topmost priority after several top government officials including the Prime Minister, Telecom minister and Finance minster took cognizance of the issue. If you are a customer bugged by call drops, get ready to be paid by your operator.
