With the number of media content being shared across popular social networking site, Facebook, increasing rapidly, the company is now testing new functionality which would make the videos play automatically.

With the new functionality, videos shared from personal Facebook accounts or verified Pages and pages of musicians and bands will start playing automatically. The videos would initially play silently and expand and play the audio when clicked. The functionality is currently being tested on Facebook apps on Android and iOS platforms.

While this feature is currently limited to videos posted by individuals, musicians, and bands, the company seems to be exploring how to bring this to marketers in the future. Should this test run yield positive results, the company could use its over billion users to market video ads.
