Educational tablets are not something unheard of in India. We have had both governmental and non-governmental efforts in the segment, but nothing we have seen is specialized. Well, there is a new player on the scene trying to change that. Metis Learning  – start-up in the sector has launched an interactive learning tablet aimed at a segment that has been fussed about much by the tablet industry – kids from 2 years to 10 years old.

“There is no denying the fact that today’s 21st century child lives in a world of technology. However, parents are frustrated with the current technology options available and the negative influences of technology. Eddy introduces the concept of responsible technology, ensuring a safe and controlled technology experience for children with a strong focus on learning.” states Bharat Gulia, CEO, Metis Learning.

Basically, the concept of this tablet is pretty simple – it is targeted at kids of an impressionable and aimed at  giving parents tools to push them towards learning and protecting them from stuff such as violence. It has rewards for kids and even lets parents monitor the usage. The concept has been pretty professionally executed since rather than concentrating on specs, they have concentrated on the requirements of toddlers. The tablet has a dedicated UI for kids which can also be switched to ‘adult mode’ for your usage. The tablet is targeted towards kids and our hands-on impressions of it were pretty good. One of the best things about the tablet is the rubber cover which is food grade and pretty safe for kids. It protects the tablet against most damages a kid can cause it.

As for the specs, the screen is 7-inch 1024 x 600p IPS, supported by Android 4.2 inside, with 1 GB DDR3 RAM, 3200 mAh battery, 8 GB memory and weighs an easy 88 grams inside the cover.

The Metis education tablet is a nicely executed concept, but we have just one woe – its Rs. 9990, which is a little steep for some parents. The tablet will be available via Amazon from today and come to other retailers later.
