Facebook updates Messenger for Android, sign up with just name & phone number

Facebook has today announced an update to its Messenger App for Android which brings in the ability to sign up/in using only a name and phone number.

The app will now allow users to create a Messenger account with just their name and phone number and they will be able to start messaging their mobile contacts.

 
Users will just have to install the app and tap Get Started to reach your contacts faster, start group conversations, share photos and more. Initially the update is being rolled out in select markets which include India, Indonesia, Australia, Venezuela, South Africa and more countries will be added to this list very soon.
 
While this update is initially for Android users, Facebook has promised to bring the update to its iOS users too in the near future. For now, if you are an Android users, then download the updated Messenger for Android by clicking the widget below.
