Bharti Airtel has announced the expansion of its mobile network coverage along the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage routes in Jammu and Kashmir. The enhanced network aims to provide improved connectivity for pilgrims, security personnel, and local administrative authorities throughout the annual pilgrimage. As part of the expansion, Airtel has deployed new network sites at Chandanwari, Pissu Top, and Betaab Valley, strengthening connectivity across the Pahalgam route leading to the Amarnath cave shrine.

Expanded Coverage Across Key Pilgrimage Routes

The newly deployed infrastructure complements Airtel’s existing network presence at Baltal, extending voice and data coverage across the primary transit routes used by pilgrims during the yatra.

According to the company, the deployment was carried out in coordination with government authorities and the local administration to ensure reliable communication services throughout the pilgrimage.

Supporting Pilgrims & Emergency Communications

Airtel says the expanded network infrastructure is designed to provide:

  • Voice and mobile data connectivity for pilgrims
  • Improved communication for security forces
  • Reliable connectivity for local administrative authorities
  • Support for emergency communication services
  • Access to digital services during the pilgrimage

Strengthening Connectivity in Challenging Terrain

The company noted that the deployment is part of its ongoing efforts to expand telecom infrastructure in geographically challenging regions. By strengthening network coverage across the Amarnath Yatra corridor, Airtel aims to improve digital connectivity and communication reliability for thousands of pilgrims traveling to the shrine each year.

Commenting on this, Vikram RS, COO – Jammu and Kashmir, Bharti Airtel, said, “At Airtel, we remain committed to connecting people, communities, and essential services, even in some of the most challenging terrains. The expansion of our network across both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes for the Amarnath Yatra reflects our continued investment in Jammu & Kashmir and our commitment to ensuring that pilgrims, security personnel, and authorities remain reliably connected throughout this important annual pilgrimage.”
