With Qualcomm and MediaTek taking the processor fight to the next level, another new entrant is planning to give the companies a tough fight.
AllWinner, a relatively new processor manufacturing company, is already working on the octa core A80 processor. The processor, which is expected to be released only in 2014, is expected to give a tough fight to the Snapdragon 800 chips. The processor will run a big.LITTLE configuration and will take advantage of HPM (Heterogeneous Process Migration), which allows to run all the eight cores simultaneously.
However the AllWinner A80 processor has a marked advantage of utilizing four ARM Cortex-A15 cores, along with four Cortex-A7 processor. The processor would definitely beat the latest MediaTek processor which runs on eight ARM Cortex-A15 cores. While we can expect high end performance from such a processor, the energy efficiency of the processor along with the pricing will play an important role in deciding its future.
