Amazon has expanded its Echo smart speaker lineup in India with the launch of the new Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio smart speakers. The new models introduce upgraded audio hardware, room-adaptive sound technologies, built-in smart home hubs, and support for newer wireless standards, including Wi-Fi 6E, Thread, Matter, and Zigbee.
The Echo Dot Max is Amazon’s latest compact smart speaker and introduces a redesigned two-way audio system featuring a 2.5-inch high-excursion woofer paired with a custom 0.8-inch tweeter. Amazon says the speaker delivers nearly three times deeper bass compared to the Echo Dot (5th Gen), thanks to its larger internal air cavity and optimized acoustic architecture.
The speaker also supports automatic room adaptation, which dynamically tunes audio performance based on room acoustics for improved clarity and bass response. It is additionally the first Echo Dot series speaker to include a built-in smart home hub for controlling compatible connected devices directly.
The larger Echo Studio focuses on premium home audio and entertainment experiences. It features Amazon Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos support and combines a 3.75-inch high-excursion woofer with three full-range drivers positioned to create wider, room-filling sound with improved depth and clarity.
Amazon has also redesigned the Echo Studio with a more compact spherical body wrapped in a 3D knit acoustic fabric finish intended to maintain audio transparency while improving aesthetics.
Both speakers support lossless high-definition audio playback, automatic room calibration, and a four-microphone array for improved voice detection. Amazon says the devices also offer nearly 50 percent better Alexa wake-word recognition and enhanced conversational detection capabilities.
The new Echo devices come equipped with Omnisense ambient AI technology that enables smart home automation using motion sensing, audio sensing, ultrasound, Wi-Fi radar, accelerometers, and temperature detection. Users can automate compatible smart home products such as lights, air conditioners, plugs, and fans through Alexa routines.
Connectivity support includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Bluetooth Low Energy, Zigbee, Matter, and Thread compatibility. The Echo Dot Max is powered by the AZ3 chipset, while the Echo Studio features the more advanced AZ3 Pro chipset.
Amazon also says users can pair up to five Echo speakers with compatible Fire TV devices for Alexa Home Theater experiences. The devices additionally support streaming platforms such as Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, and Audible.
Both speakers are designed to support the upcoming Alexa+ generative AI assistant once it becomes available in India. Privacy-focused features such as microphone mute controls and voice recording management through the Alexa app are also included.
Malvika Jethwani, Echo and Smart Home Country Lead, Amazon India, said, “With Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio, we’re delivering premium audio experiences that raise the standard for smart speakers. Echo Dot Max delivers improved bass through a redesigned audio architecture, while Echo Studio offers spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, with Alexa built into both. But we also know that smart speakers today go far beyond audio – our customers use them as their smart home control centre, daily assistant, and family companion.
Both these devices feature Omnisense, our custom sensor platform that senses presence in the room, detects motion, and reads temperature, so the smart home responds proactively. We look forward to customers in India experiencing these new devices that combine premium audio, intelligent automation, and Alexa in a single device.”
