Google has announced the rollout of Gemini Spark, a new AI-powered personal agent that can automate digital tasks across Google Workspace. The feature is being rolled out to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India over the coming weeks.

Unlike traditional AI assistants that respond only when prompted, Gemini Spark is designed to work autonomously in the background. Running on Google’s cloud infrastructure, it continues performing assigned tasks even when a user’s phone or computer is locked or turned off.

Built For Background Automation

Powered by the Gemini 3.6 Flash model, Gemini Spark shifts the focus from answering questions to completing recurring workflows automatically.

The AI agent integrates directly with Google Workspace services such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar, allowing it to organise information, update files, and automate everyday tasks without requiring manual setup.

What Gemini Spark Can Do

Google says Gemini Spark can automate several routine activities, including:

  • Parsing travel confirmation emails and updating trip itineraries
  • Filling available Google Calendar slots with relevant local events
  • Collecting RSVP responses and dietary preferences into organised spreadsheets
  • Reviewing Gmail invoices to detect subscription price hikes or expiring free trials
  • Drafting cancellation emails for user approval
  • Monitoring incoming emails and preparing context-aware reply drafts
  • Learning a user’s writing style from previous documents to generate personalised email drafts

Google has built multiple safeguards into Gemini Spark. Users can decide which Google apps the AI agent is allowed to access and can disable the feature at any time.

For sensitive actions such as sending emails, financial transactions, or other high-impact tasks, Gemini Spark will always require explicit user confirmation before completing the action.

A Move Toward AI Agents

With Gemini Spark, Google is expanding Gemini beyond a conversational chatbot into an autonomous AI agent capable of handling repetitive digital work on behalf of users.

The launch reflects a broader industry trend where AI systems are evolving from information assistants into intelligent agents that can proactively execute workflows while keeping users in control.
