Google has officially announced the Google Home Speaker, its next-generation smart speaker powered by the new Gemini for Home voice assistant. Unlike traditional smart speakers that rely on predefined commands, the new Google Home Speaker leverages Gemini’s advanced AI capabilities to deliver more natural conversations, contextual understanding, multi-step reasoning, and smarter smart home interactions.
The launch marks Google’s biggest upgrade to its smart home ecosystem since the introduction of Google Assistant, bringing generative AI experiences directly into the home through a dedicated hardware product.

Gemini for Home Brings Smarter Conversations
At the core of the new Google Home Speaker is Gemini for Home, Google’s AI-powered voice assistant designed to understand natural speech patterns rather than rigid voice commands.
Users can speak naturally, combine multiple requests into a single sentence, correct commands midway through speaking, and ask complex questions that require contextual understanding.
Gemini also maintains short-term conversational memory, allowing users to ask follow-up questions naturally without repeating information. Google is additionally expanding Continued Conversation support across all supported languages, enabling users to continue interacting after receiving a response without repeatedly saying the wake phrase.
Gemini for Home Features
- 10 natural-sounding voice options
- Natural language conversations
- Logic-based requests and reasoning
- Multiple commands in a single sentence
- Mid-sentence command corrections
- Context-aware follow-up questions
- Multi-step responses
- Continued Conversation support across languages
- Voice Match support for personalized responses

Google Home Premium Unlocks Advanced AI Features
Alongside the new hardware, Google is introducing additional AI capabilities through Google Home Premium. These include:
- Gemini Live: A more advanced conversational AI experience that supports interruptions, topic switching, and free-flowing discussions.
- Camera History Search: Allows users to search Nest camera recordings using natural language, including queries involving familiar faces, pets, and events.
- Home Briefs: Generates AI-powered summaries of home activity while users are away, offering a quick overview of important events detected by connected devices.
Designed for Music, Smart Homes, and AI
Beyond AI functionality, the Google Home Speaker is designed to serve as a capable entertainment and smart home hub.
The speaker delivers 360-degree omnidirectional audio through a 58 mm full-range driver, providing balanced sound for music, podcasts, and voice responses.
Google says the adaptive microphone system automatically adjusts to environmental conditions to improve voice recognition accuracy.
Users can also pair up to two Google Home Speakers with a Google TV Streamer to create a spatial surround sound setup for media consumption.
Sustainable Design with Privacy Controls
The Google Home Speaker features a compact cylindrical design wrapped in a custom 3D-knit fabric exterior.
An underglow light ring visually indicates when the speaker is listening, processing requests, or responding.
Google has also included a dedicated hardware microphone mute switch, giving users direct control over privacy and voice recording functionality.
Sustainability remains a focus, with the company using 37% recycled materials by product weight and shipping the device in 100% plastic-free packaging.
The smart speaker is available in four color options – Hazel, Porcelain, Jade (US exclusive), and Berry (US exclusive).
