Internet Services might cost more soon

For all the internet addicts like us, who like to stay online 24 hours a day, be prepared to shell out a few more bucks for your internet? As per the newly proposed regulatory from the telecom department, a one-time licencing fee is proposed.

As of now the option is given to the service providers to select whether to continue with old licensing plan or adopt the new unified license format. The new format proposed by the department of telecom levies a national level unified license cost under which telecom companies can provide services that don’t require paid spectrum.According to the president of Internet Service Provider Association of India (ISPAI), Rajesh Charia, Should Internet service providers opt for UL, then cost of Internet and broadband services will go up.

This new regulation comes in wake of the alleged spectrum scam in which the Supreme Court of India had scrapped licenses of telecom operators. Soon thereafter the department of telecom recommended an Rs 15 cr non-refundable entry fee for unified license to be paid by service providers at a national level.

So will you be ready to pay more for your internet services?
