Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleMicrosoft has introduced Microsoft Scout, the first Autopilot agent built specifically for Microsoft 365 environments. Alongside, the company has announced Autopilots, a new category of AI agents designed to operate continuously in the background and perform tasks on behalf of users.

Microsoft Scout

Unlike traditional AI assistants that require repeated prompts, Autopilots are designed to remain active, understand how work flows across applications and systems, and take action autonomously. Microsoft says these agents operate with their own identity and can perform tasks within organizational permissions and security policies, allowing work to continue even when users are occupied elsewhere.

Microsoft Scout serves as the first implementation of this vision. Integrated across Microsoft 365, Scout connects with Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, emails, chats, calendars, contacts, and enterprise data sources to help users manage day-to-day coordination tasks. Users primarily interact with Scout through Teams, while the desktop experience extends support to web browsers, local resources, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.

The company says Scout is powered by OpenClaw open-source technology and enhanced with enterprise-grade security, governance, and management capabilities. Its primary goal is to reduce coordination overhead by handling scheduling, monitoring deliverables, and proactively identifying workflow bottlenecks.

Key tasks supported by Microsoft Scout include scheduling meetings across multiple time zones, generating meeting preparation materials, tracking deadlines and deliverables, automatically reserving calendar time for important work, and identifying workflow risks such as delayed approvals or stalled decisions.

A major component of Scout is a contextual intelligence framework called Work IQ. Microsoft says Work IQ continuously learns how users work, understands priorities and recurring patterns, and helps Scout make better decisions over time. This enables the agent to proactively move work forward based on user preferences and organizational context.

Microsoft also announced that it is contributing policy conformance capabilities to the OpenClaw open-source project. These additions will allow organizations to validate security and compliance requirements, verify deployment integrity, and generate audit-ready compliance reports.

Security remains a key focus of the platform. Each Scout agent operates with its own dedicated Microsoft Entra identity, ensuring all actions can be traced back to a governed and recognized entity. Credentials remain task-scoped, protected end-to-end, and managed under Microsoft’s existing security framework. Sensitive actions can require human approval, while Microsoft Purview policies, sensitivity labels, and data loss prevention controls remain fully enforced.

Microsoft Scout Features

  • Microsoft 365 Integration: Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, emails, chats, calendars, contacts
  • Automation Tasks: Meeting scheduling, preparation materials, deliverable tracking, calendar management, workflow monitoring
  • Context Engine: Work IQ contextual learning and prioritization system
  • Platform Support: Cloud, desktop, web environments, local resources, MCP servers
  • Security & Compliance: Microsoft Entra identity, task-scoped credentials, Microsoft Purview enforcement, DLP controls, sensitivity labels

Availability

Microsoft employees have already been testing an early version of Scout internally. The company is now expanding access through a private preview program and to selected Frontier organizations.

To participate in the preview, organizations must have:

  • Frontier enrollment
  • Intune policy configuration
  • Opt-in attestation
  • GitHub Copilot licenses for participating users

Eligible organizations can then download and deploy the Microsoft Scout experience to evaluate autonomous AI workflows before broader availability.
