Samsung has launched the Samsung 990 SSD in India, expanding its NVMe storage lineup with 1 TB and 2 TB capacity options. The new PCIe 4.0 SSD is designed for gaming, content creation, and everyday PC workloads, offering sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s.
The Samsung 990 SSD comes in the M.2 2280 form factor and uses Samsung V-NAND alongside the company’s in-house controller. It supports the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and NVMe 2.0 protocol.
The 2 TB variant delivers sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s. The 1 TB model offers slightly lower read speeds of up to 7,150 MB/s while retaining the same maximum write speed of 6,450 MB/s.
For random performance, the 2 TB variant offers up to 850K IOPS random read and 1,200K IOPS random write speeds. The 1 TB version delivers up to 700K IOPS random read and 1,100K IOPS random write performance.
Samsung says the 2 TB model can store approximately 30 games based on an average game size of 64 GB, making it suitable for users maintaining larger gaming and application libraries.
According to Samsung, the 990 SSD offers a 38% improvement in power efficiency compared to the Samsung 990 PRO. The improved efficiency is designed to provide sustained storage performance while reducing overall power consumption.
The SSD also supports Samsung Magician Software, allowing users to monitor drive health, optimise performance, migrate data, and access data protection features.
