Sony Xperia Z3 – The best Sony smartphone to date

Sony has been in the smartphone game for long. When it started out as Sony Ericsson, back in the day, not many took it seriously. But, in a typical Sony fashion, the company kept on reinventing itself till it created its own space in the market. From the awesome Sony camera phones to the Walkman series, even though Sony stays silent on the matter, it is Sony that inspired two of the biggest changes in smartphones, that we now take for granted – the smartphone camera and music playback on the phone. Sony actually created phones that were true to this and that is what inspired some  great changes in smartphones. It wasn’t like companies hadn’t tried it before, but it was actually Sony that nailed smartphone music and imaging, since it actually had a background in the field, unlike companies such as Samsung.

But, Sony actually stayed on the downlow much time after its split with Ericsson. The company gave itself the time to study market trends. The result was simple and good – It gave us mid-range phones such as the Xperia J and Xperia M, but it was the Xperia Z series that actually made a benchmark for Sony. Sony produced a phone that stood apart from the rest. The Sony Xperia Z was the world’s first major waterproof phone. It created the razzle dazzle that Sony lives up to, even today.

Then came the Xperia Z1, after which we saw the Xperia Z2. But Sony was slowly learning all this while. With each installment, Sony is improving and delivering the best and latest to its customers.

The Sony Xperia Z3, it seems, is the culmination of the learning process that started with the Sony Xperia Z. It ticks all the right boxes – waterproof? Check. Great Camera? Check. Good form factor? Check. Latest version of Android? Check. Battery Life? Check. Music Playback? Check. Overall functionality? Once again, Check.

Don’t believe me? Have a look at the specs for yourself.

Sony Xperia Z3 Specs:

  • 5.2-inch IPS display
  • Full HD (1920x1080p) resolution
  • Quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 16 or 32 GB internal storage
  • microSD expansion up to 128 GB
  • 7.3 mm body
  • 20.7 MP camera with LED flash
  • 2.1 MP front facing camera
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 3100 mAh battery
  • Cat 4 LTE, NFC

I have got the Sony Xperia Z3 for review and have also had the pleasure of reviewing the rest of the Sony Xperia Z series in the past.

Sony Xperia Z3, in no uncertain terms is the best Sony smartphone till date. Compared with its predecessors, the phone has much more on offer. I do not really have any qualms over the camera being the same one as Xperia Z2, Since Sony hasn’t just created a camera phone. In addition to that, the camera has functioned surprisingly well in the past.

The display definitely works better supported by an Adreno 330 GPU. But, it is definitely the Snapdragon 801 processor that takes the cake. The Sony Xperia Z3 is designed to be a performance intensive phone and with the support of the processor, it does so. The camera doesn’t overheat on repeated clicks and graphic intensive gaming has little or no impact. For me, that is something that can make or break my  relationship with a phone.

The phone is suave and easy to hold, easy to use and doesn’t give up. It has premium looks and premium premium performance combined with Sony’s UI, which makes it a whole package.

But, what takes the cake for me, is definitely the improved form factor, the phone is easy to hold, good to look at, thin and well-designed. You never, for a minute, get the feeling that you are using a phone with a 5.2-inch display. It is a phablet that still feels phone, which is how most people like it.

I would definitely rate it as the best Sony smartphone till date. It is one of the phones which you will fall in love with, over time. I was definitely left impressed with it.
