Spotify has announced a new AI Persona badge for artist profiles to help listeners identify when an artist’s public identity may be generated using artificial intelligence. The feature is part of Spotify’s broader Artist Identity & Trust initiative and is designed to address growing confusion around AI-generated artist identities that appear to represent real people.
The badge focuses specifically on an artist’s public identity, including their name and imagery, rather than determining whether their music itself was created using AI.
Spotify AI Persona Badge
The new badge will indicate when an artist profile may represent an AI-generated persona rather than a real person. Spotify said the decision follows feedback from listeners who encountered profiles that appeared human but were actually built around AI-generated identities.
Artists can voluntarily disclose their AI Persona status through Spotify for Artists. Spotify will also review profiles where the artist’s public identity, including their name and imagery, appears to represent a photorealistic AI-generated person.
The initial review process will focus on profiles meeting specific audience thresholds, which Spotify says will allow the labels to cover the vast majority of artist profiles that listeners visit.
The badge will appear across several parts of Spotify, including:
- Artist profile banner and About section
- Search results
- Track rows across playlists
Tapping the badge will provide additional information explaining whether the artist self-disclosed the AI Persona status or whether Spotify reviewed the profile and made its own determination.
Artists whose profiles are labeled by Spotify will be notified and can either self-disclose their status or appeal Spotify’s decision. Listeners will also be able to report profiles they believe represent AI Personas.
AI Personas Excluded From Recommendations
Spotify will also treat AI Personas differently within its recommendation systems. By default, music from AI Persona profiles will be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations.
However, the music can still appear in a user’s personalized recommendations when there is an existing relationship with the artist, such as when the listener follows the AI Persona.
Spotify clarified that the AI Persona badge does not mean the artist’s music was generated using AI. A real artist can use AI tools as part of their creative process without being classified as an AI Persona.
To provide more transparency around AI-assisted music creation, Spotify also uses AI Credits, which allow artists to disclose how AI was used during the production of a song.

The AI Persona badge joins several other artist-focused transparency tools introduced by Spotify in 2026:
- Verified by Spotify: Indicates that an artist is a real human presenting themselves authentically
- AI Credits: Allows artists to disclose AI involvement in the music creation process
- SongDNA: Provides information about artists and contributors behind a track
- Artist Details: Highlights career milestones, releases, and touring activity
- Artist Profile Protection: Allows artists to review and approve releases delivered to Spotify
Spotify says hundreds of thousands of artist profiles are already verified, with independent artists making up the majority of verified profiles.
Availability
Artist self-disclosure for AI Personas is available through Spotify for Artists starting today. The AI Persona badge will begin appearing from mid-September 2026 on relevant profiles.
Spotify plans to expand listener reporting for suspected AI Persona profiles in the coming months and says it will continue refining its approach as AI-generated identities become more common across the music industry.
