X, formerly known as Twitter, has rolled out a completely rebuilt version of its Android app globally, following nearly a year of development. According to Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, the Android application was rebuilt from scratch in what he described as one of the company’s largest engineering efforts.
The overhaul primarily focuses on improving the underlying performance and reliability of the Android experience while establishing a new foundation that could allow X to develop and introduce future features more quickly.

Faster Loading & Smoother Scrolling
The rebuilt X Android app brings several improvements to everyday performance. Users should experience faster loading times when opening and navigating the app, along with smoother scrolling throughout timelines and other sections.
X has also worked on improving notifications and overall app reliability, addressing some of the core areas that directly affect the day-to-day user experience.
According to Bier, the rebuilt app is “faster, smoother and more reliable,” while the new technical foundation is expected to help the company’s engineering teams build and deploy new features at a faster pace.
More Improvements Are Still in Development
Despite the major rebuild, X is continuing to work on additional improvements for Android users. One area of focus is optimizing the application for older Android smartphones, where performance may still require further refinement.
The company is also working on bringing the ability to host Spaces directly from Android. While users can already access Spaces, expanded hosting functionality is among the improvements currently being developed for the platform.
Availability
The rebuilt X app for Android is now rolling out globally through the Google Play Store. Existing users can update the application to access the latest version, while further performance improvements and new features are expected to arrive through future updates.
