IDC says the Smart Phone Market is growing by 79% year on year

The International Data Corporation (IDC) is the premier global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets. They have recently revealed that the global smart phone market has had an expansion of 79.7% from Q1 2010 to Q1 2011. About 99.6 million smart phones have been shipped just in Q1 of 2011.

Nokia were the overall leaders in the market with 24.2 million shipments in Q1 2011, however Samsung and HTC have the biggest turnover of 350% and 229.6% respectively. Apple has also gained by selling 10 million more iPhones. RIM remained and maintained the third spot but had a small increase in sale of about 3.3 million Blackberry handsets.
