Jolla might just be one good thing that has come out of Nokia. Its a company formed by former members of Nokia and is actively working on a new OS and device. It has just declared the specs of its first Sailfish smartphone. Sailfish, in case you don’t know is an Android alternative OS built on the lines of MeeGo.
The handset will come with features such as gesture controlled UI and 4G support. Jolla has announced not only the specs of the handset, but also a tentative shipping date for the same. Specs are pretty much up to speed with any major smartphone in the market – they have a 4.5-inch ‘Estrade’ qHD display, a 2100 mAh battery, an 8-megapixel rear cam, a 2-megapixel front cam and there is also 16 GB internal memory and MicroSD support.
The Jolla comes with a 1.4-GHz processor and 1 GB RAM. The company also revealed recently that the Sailfish OS is Android compatible, which means that device makers wouldn’t have to face much hassles while adopting the OS.
An added accessory is Smart Covers which customize your phone by detecting what kind of cover is put on. While there is no definite release date yet, the phone should hit the market by the end of the year. It will be retailing unlocked for around $513. Its gesture based OS is its biggest selling point.
