Honor 6 Plus picture capability analysis

The Honor 6 plus is something different than the usual smartphone deal, especially when it comes to camera. I wouldn’t call the dual-cam design extraordinary, but it is something that takes guts to implement. Huawei Honor has really tried to do this at a tight string budget, which is a point that most Indian consumers would appreciate, once they look beyond brands. The Honor 6 Plus’ dual 8-megapixel proposition doesn’t just look good on paper, in fact, we have actually taken it out to the real world and tested how it holds.

We will now not just examine individual images, but also take a detailed view of the Wide Aperture mode, which is where you can make the best use of the dual camera setup.

The dual camera sensors on the Huawei Honor do give it an edge, in addition to gathering a bunch of light, they’re also getting images affected by parallax (from different viewpoints, like the two eyeballs in your head) that can be combined to create 3D and lens effects.

As for the wide aperture mode, it is a feature akin the refocus mode on many smartphones, but with a twist. Instead of editing the image afterwards, what Huawei Honor has done is empowered its smartphone camera to actually adjust the aperture of the lens to take photos. This just makes the images feel much more natural and DSLR quality.

Well, now that we have explained the concept, let’s get you what matters the most – the images.

As you can see, while the camera can take great photos even when placed against the sunlight, when you introduce the shallow depth of field, it kind of troubles the camera a bit. But still, as you can see the effect is there.

This image has been taken partly in shade. Now, this is something that is an example of a DSLR-esque shot. As you can see, we haven’t really refocussed the shot. Only the bell, which is the focus of the image and its immediate surroundings are not blurred. The whole process of refocussing is natural.

This  is a detailed shot, but only parts of the image are refocussed. The clarity of the original image has been maintained, yet the effect is also there.

Here we have actually compared two images side by side, one in shade, and the other taken in wide aperture, with a centered object placed a little far. As you can see, the wide aperture mode really takes it to another level. Not just that, this image goes to show, that you have a wide range of effects to choose from unlike refocus modes, where you have maybe 2 or 3 effects to choose from.

This is one of the best shots taken in wide aperture mode. When you push this mode to a level, it would refocus in a way that no one can guess that this image was taken from a smartphone camera.

Once again the Wide Aperture mode has given out an excellent image. Let’s compare it with a refocussed image from the HTC One M8.

As you can see, both the refocusses are there, but you can easily guess which one was taken from a smartphone.

Now let’s take a view of some more images from the camera.

This image has been taken by opening up the aperture.

This image is a normal one, taken against sunlight and a bit further subject.

This image has been taken in half shade and half light to check how the camera responds to light interference.

This image has been taken to test the color contrast and has perfectly captured the flower that stands out in a sea of green.

This one has even more vibrance in terms of color and still maintains the color balance.

This image looks simple but can actually challenge any camera but this one succulently captures the shot, both in light and shade.

One image has taken at normal focus, while the other was taken at wide aperture. In the earlier one the clarity is great, while in the other one is focussed on the flower.

These images have been taken in normal focus and show the clarity of the Honor 6 Plus’ camera, whether it be a long shot, a colorful shot, a vibrant shot or even one against sunlight.
