After this amendment, it is now compulsory for every mobile operator in India to offer at least one, Pay-per-Second plan in every telecom circle it hold license for.

This is indeed a great move by TRAI as it’ll give customers more choice in as to how they wish to pay. TRAI in a statement issued said, “After this amendment it has become mandatory for service providers to offer in each service area at least one tariff plan each for both postpaid and prepaid subscriber with a uniform pulse rate of ‘one second’.”

With this TRAI has also said that the rate of the Premium Rate Services which operator levy on SMS sent for participation in competitions and voting does not have much content compared to that of any normal SMS, now operators shall charge users not more than four times of the applicable local call or SMS charges.
