We keep receiving SMS from our telecom service providers like Airtel and Vodafone everyday regarding mobile number re-verification and linking of Aadhaar card with mobile numbers till March 31, 2018. Well, that’s because the last date to link mobile numbers with Aadhaar is March 31, 2018. However, if you haven’t linked your mobile number with Aadhaar yet, you need not worry much as this deadline to link your mobile number with Aadhaar has been further extended.
This deadline of March 31, 2018 to link Aadhaar with mobile number has been extended indefinitely by Supreme Court. The new deadline hasn’t been announced as the apex court is yet to pass judgement on existing Aadhaar related cases.
Apart from extending the deadline for linking Aadhaar with mobile number, the Supreme Court has also extended the deadline to link Aadhaar with bank accounts. However, this order does not apply on linking of Aadhaar with subsidies and benefits offered by the government under Section 7.
Moreover, the court has also said that Aadhaar cannot be made mandatory for issuance of Tatkal passports.
Well, this isn’t the first time that the deadline to link Aadhaar with mobile numbers has been extended. Last year, on December 15, the court had extended the deadline to March 31, 2018, which has now been extended indefinitely.
Having said that, even if the deadline to link Aadhaar with mobile numbers has been extended, we suggest you link your Aadhaar with your mobile number at the earliest before some new rules kick in.
