The Coolpad Max boasts a 5.5-inch full HD display, a 64 GB internal storage, a 4 GB RAM, the latest 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 with an octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. It is a 4G enabled Dual SIM phone that runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. With a new look, metallic design, and above-mentioned specs, Coolpad simply surprised us. Let’s see our hands-on with Coolpad Max.

Unlike its two Coolpad siblings, this one boasts of a metallic unibody design that stylish and feels premium. With rounded edges, it fits in your hands comfortably. It is a 5.5-inch device that triggers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. What’s great is the Coolpad Max has a massive 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage. I would get a smartphone with a better storage and RAM any day.

The Coolpad Max is made pretty tough, the whole metallic unibody feels premium. If you look at their previous devices such as Coolpad Note 3 and its Lite version, they both boast a plastic body design that has a removable back cover.

When you flip the phone, the back design looks very identical to the Apple’s iPhone 6. However, the camera placement is in the middle. The two cameras on the back side and the front side has 13 megapixels and 5 megapixels respectively. The 13 MP camera has PDAF and a dual-tone LED flash. Coolpad kept the fingerprint placement on the back just like their Note series.

When you talked about the design in detail, the Coolpad Max has a nice 2.5D curve on the edges of the screen and chamfered edges on the frames. The full metallic body is somewhat better than what I have seen in many smartphones, it doesn’t feel like plastic from any sides but some heavy metal. While I have seen some phones having mixed metal that looks and feels like textured plastic.

The navigation buttons on the Coolpad Max isn’t placed externally but they are inside the display where as the Coolpad Note 3 and Coolpad Note 3 Lite exhibits external navigation buttons. The bottom area has enough space to keep the buttons outside.

On top, there is only a 3.5 mm audio jack and nothing else is provided. The microphones are located at the bottom side and at the backside alongside the camera.

When you look at the bottom, it looks very similar to the Apple’s iPhone 6 design. Although, the iPhone has one speaker grill and a 3.5 mm audio jack, the bottom area of the Coolpad Max still have some similarity. The USB port, two small screws, the grill, everything looks identical to the iPhone 6. Below you will find a Micro USB port for charging and data transfer. The left grill holds a microphone while the right one has loudspeakers.

Moving towards the sides, the left side has the metallic volume control buttons having good tactile feedback. When you move to the right, you will find a hybrid SIM tray along with the power button itself. The SIM tray can be used for Dual SIM or single SIM and one MicroSD. The storage can be expanded using a MicroSD.

Running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Cool UI skin, the Coolpad Max has extraordinary apps like FP lock which can lock apps using your fingerprints. Shaking the device changes the wallpaper. The company has introduced a new feature called Dual Space you may not have heard before. Coolpad Max is the World’s first smartphone to feature Dual Space allowing the users to separate their privacy by using BiLogin technology. The user can have dual accounts of Whatsapp, Facebook, Snapchat, and other social media platforms. All the data is secured using an embedded encryption technology.

The Coolpad Max uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 SoC. Coolpad not only offers a new midrange CPU but a large 4 GB RAM and a 64 GB storage.

All in all, the Coolpad is pretty much exciting to wait for once it is available to buy. The Coolpad Max will be available for Rs. 24,999, exclusively on Amazon India from May 30. We will review the device soon and cover things like its performance, camera, battery life and so on. Till then share us in the comments how is the new Coolpad Max?
