Coolpad Mega 2.5D Hands-on and Images

Coolpad is known for its affordable handsets like the Coolpad Note 3. With that, the Chinese Company gained a lot of impressions until the launch of its flagship product Coolpad Max which was ridiculously priced at ₹24,999. Now Coolpad has launched another budget smartphone Coolpad Mega 2.5D in India. The phone is aimed at the entry-level segment featuring a nice 2.5D curved glass and a very light-weight slim design. Here are the hands-on and images of Coolpad Mega 2.5D.

Coolpad Note 3 was among the lightest smartphones, and now Coolpad Mega 2.5D is yet another light charmer weighing just 143 grams. Sized at 5.5-inch, it features a 2.5D curved glass on the front and a slim design (7.9 mm). Although the body is made from plastic materials, the form factor is pretty neat and solid.

Coolpad phones are known for its fingerprint scanner but I believe this is the only smartphone without a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is skipped in this handset while its 5-inch companion Coolpad Note 3 Lite comes with it. The specifications aren’t that appealing, it sports a 1.0 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 processor from MediaTek MT6735 SoC, yet a larger 3 GB RAM module that can easily catch your attention since many competitors offer a 2 GB RAM instead. Furthermore, the 16 GB internal storage can be expanded using Micro SD up to 32 GB.

Coolpad Mega 2.5D flaunts a 5.5-inch IPS HD display (1280 x 720 pixels). The screen is covered with a 2.5D curved scratch-resistant glass which unfortunately isn’t a Corning Gorilla Glass.

On flipping the phone, it flaunts a matte finish solid non-textured design and boasts a 2500 mAh non-removable battery. The 8 MP f/2.2 autofocus rear snapper records up to 720 videos while there’s another 8 MP f/2.2 camera on the front end. It is surprising how a similar priced Coolpad Note 3 Lite comes with a 13 MP rear camera.

Moreover, the camera on the Coolpad Mega 2.5D supports a single LED flash. Coolpad moniker can be found on the back alongside the speaker grill. The bottom front space carries another Coolpad branding instead of external buttons. The phone doesn’t support any external touch buttons rather on-screen buttons while the Coolpad Note 3 series have it. The speaker grill placement might be inconvenient if placed on a flat surface can block the sound.

No External Touch Buttons

The phone supports two nano SIM cards on its hybrid SIM tray. The tray also holds a MicroSD slot which cannot be used when you on dual SIM. This is a 4G enabled smartphone with VoLTE support.

The power button and hybrid SIM tray are on the right, and volume control is provided on the left. The Coolpad Mega 2.5D features a Micro USB, 3.5 mm stereo jack, and two microphones – one on the bottom and another above the rear camera.

Coolpad Mega 2.5D will be available at a price of ₹6,999 on a first flash sale via Amazon India. What we’ll miss in this phone will be the amazing fingerprint scanner other Coolpad phones offer and a larger battery capacity. The good thing is it comes with a classy look and a newer CoolUI 8.0. Coolpad Mega 2.5D comes with an updated CoolUI 8.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow while other Coolpad phones remain behind in terms of the software.

Before making any judgments, we will spend more time with the smartphone for further review. Share us your thoughts and views on this phone in the comments section below.
