Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleInstagram has officially introduced Instants, a new feature focused on real-time disappearing photo sharing with Close Friends and mutual followers. Alongside the feature rollout inside Instagram, the company is also testing a standalone Instants app in select countries on both Android and iOS platforms. The feature is designed around spontaneous, unedited photo sharing, encouraging users to capture and send photos instantly rather than uploading edited content from galleries.

Instagram Instants
Instants can be accessed directly from Instagram’s inbox through a new stacked icon placed at the bottom-right corner of the DM interface. Tapping the icon instantly opens the camera for immediate photo capture and sharing.
Instagram says Instants is built around “in-the-moment” sharing, and therefore comes with several restrictions designed to keep the experience spontaneous and temporary.
Key Instants rules include:
- Photos must be captured in real time
- No gallery uploads supported
- No photo editing tools available
- Captions can be added before sending
- Photos disappear after being viewed
- Content becomes inaccessible after 24 hours
Users can share Instants with:
- Close Friends
- Mutual followers (people who follow each other back)
Recipients can:
- React using emojis
- Reply directly
- Send their own Instants back
Replies are delivered through standard Instagram DMs.
Inbox Integration & Archive
Instants appear in the inbox as stacked previews, allowing users to quickly identify active photo shares. Multiple Instants can also be sent sequentially using a dedicated capture button.
Instagram has additionally introduced an undo option, allowing users to remove an Instant before the recipient opens it.
While Instants disappear after viewing, Instagram stores them in a private archive for up to one year. Users can later create “Recap” Stories by compiling archived Instants into regular Instagram Stories.

Usage Limitations
Instagram has added several restrictions to maintain the private and temporary nature of the feature.
Limitations include:
- No editing after capture
- No uploads from gallery
- No screenshots or screen recordings allowed
- Undo works only before viewing
- Archive deletion only works before opening
- Content expires after 24 hours
The platform also includes a Snooze mode for incoming Instants. Users can activate it by holding the inbox stack and swiping right, temporarily muting incoming Instants notifications.
Privacy & Teen Safety
Instagram says Instants uses the platform’s existing moderation and privacy systems, including:
- Block
- Mute
- Restrict
- Reporting tools
- Automated content moderation
- Community Standards enforcement
The feature is integrated directly into Instagram Teen Accounts and Family Center protections.
Teen safety features include:
- Shared daily usage limits
- Sleep Mode between 10 PM and 7 AM
- Parental notifications for app downloads
- Automated safety monitoring
- Screenshot and recording restrictions
Standalone Instants App
Instagram is also testing a dedicated Instants app in select markets. The standalone application provides direct access to the camera for faster sharing while remaining fully synced with Instagram accounts.
Instants sent through the standalone app appear inside Instagram, and vice versa, maintaining complete cross-platform compatibility.
Availability
Instants is now rolling out globally as a built-in Instagram feature. The standalone Instants app is currently limited to select countries on Android and iOS as part of an early testing phase.
