Design, Display & Build Quality
OnePlus has taken a familiar approach with the N6, carrying over much of the visual identity seen on its recent OnePlus 15 Series flagship lineup. The rear camera island, clean symmetry, and understated matte finish give the phone a more premium appearance than its positioning might suggest. While positioned as a more affordable smartphone, the OnePlus N6 doesn’t come across as a budget device at first glance.
The phone features a matte-finished rear panel that offers a clean look and remains resistant to fingerprints during everyday use. Unlike the OnePlus 15 Series, the back panel isn’t glass, but the finish still looks premium; combined with gently curved edges, the device feels comfortable to hold.
The OnePlus N6 comes with IP65 dust and water resistance, MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability, and the company’s ArmorShell Protection, which combines reinforced corners, impact-absorbing structures, strengthened materials, and improved internal protection to better withstand accidental drops and everyday wear.
On the front, the OnePlus N6 features a 6.8-inch display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, delivering smooth scrolling, fluid animations, and a responsive overall experience, thanks to the OxygenOS 16. The panel reaches up to 1,200 nits in High Brightness Mode (HBM), helping maintain good visibility outdoors under bright sunlight.
You don’t get the new Plus Key; it retains a more conventional button layout with the power and volume keys positioned along the side. At the bottom, you will find the USB Type-C port, speaker grille, microphone, and SIM tray, maintaining a familiar and practical layout.
MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Apex | 8,000 mAh | 45W SUPERVOOC
OnePlus has positioned the OnePlus N6 as a battery-first smartphone without compromising on everyday performance. Powering the device is the new MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Apex SoC, which, according to the company, delivers an AnTuTu score exceeding 615,800 points. Paired with OxygenOS 16, the chipset is designed to provide a responsive experience for daily tasks, social media, multitasking, video streaming, and casual gaming while maintaining strong power efficiency.
The 6nm Dimensity 6360 Apex consists of octa-cores clocked at up to 2.4 GHz (2 x ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz + 6 x ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz) along with ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU and up to 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM + 128 GB Storage (with up to 2 TB expansion via microSD card).
To help maintain stable performance under sustained workloads, the OnePlus N6 incorporates a 5,300 mm² Vapor Chamber Cooling System. The large cooling solution is designed to dissipate heat efficiently during gaming, prolonged video recording, streaming sessions, and heavy multitasking.
Combined with Bypass Charging, which routes power directly to the device instead of continuously charging the battery while gaming, the phone should be able to deliver more consistent performance while reducing unnecessary heat buildup during extended sessions.
During our initial hands-on, navigation throughout the interface felt smooth, animations remained consistent, and app switching was responsive. While we’ll reserve our complete performance evaluation for the full review, the hardware appears well-balanced for its intended price segment.
Battery life is undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights of the OnePlus N6. The smartphone packs a massive 8,000 mAh battery, making it one of the largest batteries currently available in its category. OnePlus claims the battery is capable of delivering up to three days of usage on a single charge under typical usage scenarios. So, this is probably the best for media consumption, navigation, productivity, or gaming. The large battery should comfortably handle even demanding workloads without frequent charging. Supporting the large battery is 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging to quickly top up the device when required.
OnePlus has also integrated several battery-focused technologies, including Night Charging Mode, Super Power Saving Mode, 5W reverse charging, and an advanced 4-layer charging safety system. The company further claims the battery is rated for 1,600 charge cycles, retaining over 80% of its original capacity after approximately seven years, making long-term battery health another major focus of the OnePlus N6.
For cameras, the N6 packs a 50 MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, accompanied by an 8 MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. While the camera hardware remains relatively straightforward, OnePlus has focused on complementing it with several AI-powered imaging features aimed at improving everyday photography rather than simply increasing camera count.
The camera supports 1080p video recording at 60 fps, 720p slow-motion recording at 120 fps, 1080p time-lapse, and Dual-View Video, allowing simultaneous recording from the front and rear cameras for vlogs and creative content. OnePlus has also integrated its latest AI-powered editing tools, including AI Portrait Glow, AI Perfect Shot, AI Eraser, AI Unblur, AI Reflection Eraser, AI Reframe, and AI Detail Boost. These features are designed to simplify post-processing directly on the device by improving portraits, removing unwanted objects, correcting reflections, sharpening moving subjects, and automatically optimizing image composition. We’ll be sharing detailed camera samples and a comprehensive camera analysis in our full review.
Early Verdict – OnePlus N6 First Impressions
The OnePlus N6 appears to be a smartphone built around one clear priority – exceptional battery life without sacrificing the smooth user experience the brand is known for. The combination of the new Dimensity 6360 Apex, large 8,000 mAh battery, decent 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging, efficient cooling system, and OxygenOS 16 perks creates a package that should comfortably handle everyday workloads while delivering impressive endurance.
Beyond the battery, the OnePlus N6 also leaves a positive first impression with its premium look. The smartphone adopts a design language that closely resembles the flagship OnePlus 15 series, featuring a clean matte-finished rear panel and a camera module that looks far more premium than what its segment typically offers. OnePlus has also placed considerable emphasis on long-term usability. Other features like VC Cooling, Bypass Charging, 5W reverse charging, AI-powered camera tools, and the company’s battery longevity claims add to the overall package.
From our initial hands-on experience, the OnePlus N6 feels like a well-balanced smartphone, particularly well suited for users who value long battery life, smooth software, premium-looking design, and dependable day-to-day performance over benchmark numbers alone. We’ll be putting the cameras, battery endurance, charging speeds, gaming performance, display quality, and overall user experience through detailed testing, but based on our first impressions, the OnePlus N6 has several notable ingredients to become one of the more compelling battery-focused smartphones in its segment.
