Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleOpenAI has announced that Codex is now available in preview inside the ChatGPT mobile app for both iOS and Android devices. The update allows users to monitor, manage, and continue AI-powered coding workflows directly from their smartphones while Codex runs on connected laptops, devboxes, Mac minis, or remote development environments. The company says the mobile experience is designed to support long-running AI-assisted development tasks without requiring users to remain at their desktop systems.

Codex Now Works Across Connected Development Environments
With the latest update, the ChatGPT mobile app can synchronize with active Codex sessions running on connected machines in real time.
When connected, the app provides access to:
- Active coding threads and project context
- Terminal output and screenshots
- Test results and generated diffs
- Plugin approvals and permissions
- Live updates from ongoing tasks
- Model switching and thread management
OpenAI says users can review outputs, approve commands, answer questions from Codex, change task direction, and start entirely new workflows directly from the mobile app.
Unlike traditional remote desktop tools, Codex continues running directly on the connected machine while the mobile app acts as a synchronized control layer.
Designed for Long-Running AI Coding Workflows
OpenAI says the mobile Codex experience is built for developers working on extended or asynchronous coding tasks.
Example use cases include:
- Debugging software remotely
- Reviewing refactor changes while commuting
- Sending new development instructions to Codex
- Preparing customer support summaries
- Monitoring long-running tests and deployments
Because Codex operates directly from connected development environments, it can inspect project files, reproduce browser issues, run tests locally, continue workflows independently, and request clarification or permissions when required. Users can respond to those requests directly from their smartphones.
Remote SSH Support Now Generally Available
OpenAI also confirmed that Remote SSH support is now generally available, enabling Codex to connect directly to managed remote environments commonly used by development teams and enterprises.
The desktop Codex app can automatically detect hosts from existing SSH configurations, making it easier to launch projects inside remote servers, similarly to local development setups.
Once connected, those remote environments can also be accessed across signed-in ChatGPT devices through OpenAI’s relay infrastructure.
Secure Relay System Powers Synchronized Sessions
OpenAI says Codex uses a secure relay layer that keeps trusted development environments reachable across devices without directly exposing them to the public internet.
The infrastructure synchronizes:
- Active coding sessions
- Context and project state
- Permissions and approvals
- Task history across devices
Importantly, files, credentials, local configurations, and sensitive project data remain stored on the connected machine rather than inside the mobile app itself.
Enterprise-Focused Codex Updates Announced
Alongside the mobile rollout, OpenAI introduced several new enterprise and developer-focused capabilities.
New enterprise features include:
- Programmatic access tokens for CI/CD pipelines and automation
- Hooks support for logging, secret scanning, validators, and repository customization
- HIPAA-compliant Codex support for eligible ChatGPT Enterprise customers
OpenAI says HIPAA-compliant support allows healthcare organizations to use Codex for patient care and operational workflows while meeting regulatory requirements.
More than 4 Million People Now Use Codex Weekly
OpenAI also revealed that Codex adoption continues to grow rapidly, with more than 4 million users now using Codex every week across supported platforms and workflows.
The company positions Codex as a broader AI-powered software engineering platform capable of supporting development tasks across local, remote, and enterprise environments.
