Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleSpotify has officially announced a major pricing revision for its Premium subscription plans in India, reducing prices for both Student and Individual users by up to 30 percent. The update makes Spotify’s full Premium experience significantly more affordable for Indian users, particularly students and younger listeners. The pricing overhaul arrives just six months after Spotify introduced its tiered Standard, Lite, and Platinum subscription model in India.

Spotify Cuts Student & Individual Plan Pricing

Under the new pricing structure:

Plan Previous Price New Price Price Cut
Student ₹99/month ₹69/month 30%
Individual ₹199/month ₹139/month 30%
Platinum ₹299/month ₹299/month No Change

According to Spotify, the revised pricing is now live for new subscribers across the Spotify app and the Spotify website.

Spotify Removes Lite Plan

One of the biggest changes is the removal of Spotify’s Lite tier.

Previously:

  • The ₹139 Lite plan lacked offline downloads
  • High-quality 320 kbps streaming was unavailable
  • Some Premium features were restricted

With the latest revision, Spotify has effectively merged Lite and Standard Premium into a single ₹139 Individual Premium plan. This means users now receive offline downloads, ad-free listening, unlimited skips, 320 kbps high-quality streaming, and full Premium access at the same price previously charged for the limited Lite tier.

Spotify’s new ₹69 Student plan positions the company aggressively against competing music streaming platforms in India including:

  • JioSaavn
  • YouTube Music
  • Apple Music
  • Wynk Music

The company appears to be targeting college students, budget-conscious users, and first-time Premium subscribers with lower entry pricing.

Spotify says:

  • New users can access the updated prices immediately
  • Existing ₹199 Individual plan subscribers are expected to transition to the new ₹139 pricing automatically during upcoming billing cycles

The platform may also provide in-app migration options, and subscription switching prompts for eligible users.
