Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GooglePerplexity AI has introduced Personal Computer in its new Mac application, bringing Perplexity Computer to macOS devices for the first time. The feature allows AI agents to operate across local files, native Mac applications, web tools, and Perplexity’s secure cloud infrastructure, enabling more autonomous and continuous task execution.
According to the company, Personal Computer moves Perplexity Computer beyond cloud-only workflows and onto users’ personal devices, where most real-world work already happens.
Perplexity originally started as an AI-powered answer engine focused on fast search and verified responses. The company later expanded into AI-driven browsing with Comet, a browser built for web-first AI agents capable of operating across different frontier AI models.
Building Comet helped Perplexity develop a model-agnostic orchestration system capable of coordinating tools, files, models, and workflows together. From this foundation, the company created Perplexity Computer, designed to turn user queries into continuously operating AI agent workflows across multiple environments.
What Perplexity Personal Computer does on Mac
Personal Computer extends these capabilities directly onto macOS devices.
The system can operate across:
- Local files and folders
- Native Mac applications
- Web-based tools through the Comet browser
- Perplexity cloud infrastructure and secure servers
Perplexity says the system runs inside a secure development sandbox for controlled execution while still coordinating with cloud-based services when needed.
The platform also supports Apple ecosystem continuity, allowing users to:
- Start tasks on iPhone
- Continue execution on Mac
- Approve AI actions from multiple Apple devices
On devices like the Mac mini, Perplexity says the system can function as an always-on AI workstation running persistent background tasks.
Personal Computer is designed for workflows where information is spread across multiple applications and files.
The AI system can work with PDFs, Spreadsheets, Notes, Browser tabs, and CSV files.
Example tasks include:
- Organizing project files
- Comparing documents
- Generating summaries
- Preparing structured reports
- Creating dashboards
- Managing multi-stage workflows
Perplexity says users remain in control through approval checkpoints while the AI handles coordination between files, apps, and services.
Availability
The new Perplexity Mac app is now available for all users and includes:
- Desktop AI access
- File attachments
- Dictation support
- Personal Computer integration
The app is distributed outside the Mac App Store.
Perplexity confirmed that:
- Personal Computer is included in the latest version
- Pro and Max users will use subscription credits for advanced tasks
- The older Mac app will be phased out in the coming weeks
