Design, Display & Ergonomics
The REDMI Note 17 5G follows Xiaomi’s latest design language with a clean, modern appearance that feels premium despite its focus on battery capacity. The device features a premium matte rear panel, and a redesigned side camera module that gives the phone a distinctive identity without looking overly aggressive. Even with its massive battery, Xiaomi has managed to keep the phone at 8.4 mm thickness, making it surprisingly slim for an 8,000 mAh smartphone.
The smartphone is available in Starlight Purple, Dark Night, and Arctic Blue color options. We got the Arctic Blue unit, as you can see, which features a calm, understated finish that resists fingerprints reasonably well while maintaining a clean overall appearance.
Durability is another major focus. The REDMI Note 17 5G features Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection on the front along with IP65 dust and splash resistance, providing additional confidence against accidental splashes, dust exposure, and everyday usage. Xiaomi has also focused on making repairs more affordable while highlighting faster after-sales service turnaround times.
On the front, the REDMI Note 17 5G features a 6.99-inch (17.75 cm) TrueColour AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution (2,396 x 1,080 pixels). The display supports an adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 2,160 Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate in supported gaming scenarios.
The AMOLED panel supports the DCI-P3 wide colour gamut, 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and up to 1,800 nits peak brightness, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage. Xiaomi has also optimized color tuning for OTT platforms such as Netflix and YouTube to provide a more cinematic viewing experience.
Eye comfort receives equal attention through TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light, Circadian Friendly, 960 Hz PWM dimming, and DC Dimming technologies. The display also supports HydroTouch 2.0, allowing touch inputs to remain responsive even with wet, oily, or soapy fingers. Completing the front experience is an Optical In-display Fingerprint Sensor integrated beneath the display.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 Performance | 8,000 mAh Battery
The REDMI Note 17 5G uses Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 mobile platform, manufactured using an advanced 4nm process technology. It has 2 x ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and 6x ARM Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz, and is further paired with the Adreno 613 GPU.
The SoC is paired with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 Storage; available in 6 GB + 128 GB and 8 GB + 128 GB variants, with the higher model supporting up to 8 GB virtual RAM expansion, taking the total available memory up to 16 GB. Xiaomi says the combination is designed to keep everyday usage smooth for years while balancing performance and battery life.
Thermals are handled by a large 10,416 mm² cooling system, helping the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 maintain sustained performance during gaming, streaming, navigation, and multitasking while reducing thermal throttling during longer sessions.
Battery life is undoubtedly the biggest attraction. The REDMI Note 17 5G houses the largest battery ever fitted inside a REDMI smartphone – an 8,000 mAh EV-Grade Silicon-Carbon Battery. Xiaomi claims the phone can deliver more than 3 days of typical usage under light workloads while retaining 80% battery health after 1,600 charging cycles, equivalent to roughly 5 years of daily charging.
Charging is handled by 45W fast charging, with the charger included inside the retail box. The smartphone also supports 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing it to function as a power bank for accessories and compatible devices. Xiaomi further enhances battery longevity through Battery Health 4.0, Navigation-based Charging, Low-Battery Emergency Charging, DFX Safe-Charging Detection, and Zero-battery Instant Start technologies.
For imaging, the REDMI Note 17 5G packs a dual rear camera system led by a 50 MP AI Main Camera with an f/1.8 aperture supporting up to 1080p at 30 fps video recording. The front uses an 8 MP AI selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Xiaomi has also integrated several AI-powered editing tools throughout the gallery experience, including AI Erase, AI Sky, and AI Image Expansion, allowing users to remove distractions, replace skies, and expand photo framing directly on the smartphone.

Based on our initial experience, the REDMI Note 17 5G appears to be a smartphone built around endurance, entertainment, and long-term usability rather than raw benchmark performance. The combination of the 8,000 mAh EV-Grade Silicon-Carbon Battery, large 6.99-inch TrueColour AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 performance, 45W fast charging, and HyperOS 3 with long software support creates a well-balanced package for users who prioritize battery life and everyday reliability.
