More importantly, the question is whether Sony has managed to balance the comfort and environmental awareness of an open-ear design with the sound quality, call performance and everyday convenience we expect from a premium pair of wireless earbuds. Sony offers the LinkBuds Clip in Lavender, Greige, Green, and Black color options. I really like the direction Sony has taken here. The LinkBuds Clip feel more like a wearable accessory than a pair of traditional earbuds. There’s no pressure inside the ear canal, no ear fatigue after long listening sessions, and no constant urge to remove them every couple of hours. If you spend a lot of time on calls, listening to podcasts, or working with background music throughout the day, this design makes a lot of sense.
The biggest advantage of the open-ear design is that you remain aware of your surroundings. You can continue listening to music while still hearing conversations around you, office discussions, traffic sounds, or public announcements. This makes the LinkBuds Clip particularly suitable for commuting, office environments, walking, or situations where complete isolation isn’t ideal.
Build quality is solid as expected from Sony. The earbuds feel well assembled, and the flexible ear-cuff mechanism provides a secure fit without feeling overly tight. The earbuds feel solid despite their compact size, while the charging case follows the same rounded, minimalist design language and weighs 42 grams. The LinkBuds Clip are also IPX4 water resistant, giving you protection against sweat and light splashes during workouts or daily use.
Hardware, Audio Performance & Features
The Sony LinkBuds Clip are built around a 10 mm driver unit, and considering this is an open-ear design, the audio experience is quite different from what you get with conventional in-ear TWS earbuds. Since the earbuds don’t seal your ear canal, you don’t get that enclosed listening experience, but the sound feels more natural and airy while still keeping music and podcasts enjoyable for everyday listening.
What I like about the LinkBuds Clip is the overall tuning. Sony has gone for a balanced sound signature, so vocals remain clear and the different elements of a track don’t feel overly aggressive. Whether you’re listening to music, podcasts or watching videos, the open design gives the sound a more spacious character while allowing you to remain connected to your surroundings.
The LinkBuds Clip also support DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), which is designed to restore some of the high-frequency detail lost during audio compression. You can further customize the sound through the Sony | Sound Connect app, which includes a 10-band equalizer. This gives you plenty of room to adjust the sound according to your preference, whether you want stronger vocals, more bass, or a different overall balance.
Another useful addition is 360 Reality Audio. I found this approach particularly useful because an open-ear design doesn’t behave the same way in every environment. You can keep the more natural Standard mode for quieter surroundings and switch to Voice Boost when background noise makes voices harder to hear.
Call Quality
Call quality is another area where Sony has put considerable effort into the LinkBuds Clip. The earbuds use Precise Voice Pickup technology, dual microphones and AI-based signal processing to isolate your voice from surrounding noise. Battery Runtime & Charging
Battery life is another strong point of the Sony LinkBuds Clip, especially considering how lightweight and compact the earbuds are. Sony rates the earbuds for up to 9 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge, while the charging case adds another 28 hours, taking the total battery life to up to 37 hours.
For calls, the LinkBuds Clip offer up to 4 hours of continuous communication, while the earbuds can provide up to 15 hours of standby time. This makes the earbuds suitable for extended daily use without having to frequently put them back in the charging case. In everyday use, this gives you enough battery for several days of casual listening. The actual battery life will naturally vary depending on factors such as volume, listening modes, equalizer settings, DSEE and usage conditions.
The charging case uses USB Type-C port to charge the buds assume an approximate charging time of 1.5 hours to fully charge. More importantly, you don’t always need to wait for a full charge. A quick 3-minute charge can provide around 1 hour of playback, which is particularly useful when you realize the battery is low just before heading out.
One notable omission is wireless charging. The charging case can only be charged via USB, so if you regularly use a wireless charging pad, you’ll have to keep a cable handy. At around ₹18,990, this would have been a nice addition, especially considering that some competing open-ear earbuds are available at lower prices.
Overall, the 9-hour battery life from the earbuds and up to 37 hours with the charging case should be more than enough for regular music listening, podcasts and calls throughout the day. The Sony LinkBuds Clip take a different approach to wireless earbuds, and after spending time with them, I think the open-ear design is their biggest strength as well as the main factor you need to consider before buying them. Instead of trying to isolate you from the outside world, they are designed to keep you connected to your surroundings while still giving you a proper listening experience.
The Sony LinkBuds Clip aren’t trying to replace your conventional noise-isolating TWS earbuds. They are designed for a different kind of listening – comfortable, open and connected to your surroundings – and if that is what you’re looking for, Sony has built a compelling package around it. The comfort and lightweight design work particularly well for long listening sessions. At just 6.4 grams per earbud, there is no pressure inside the ear canal, and the Air Fitting Cushions help keep the earbuds secure.
Sound quality is very good for an open-ear design, particularly for vocals, podcasts and everyday music, while DSEE, the 10-band equalizer and three listening modes give you useful control over the experience. But you shouldn’t expect the same bass impact or noise isolation you get from sealed in-ear earbuds due to their traditional designs. Calling is another area where the LinkBuds Clip have some strengths, thanks to Precise Voice Pickup, AI-based processing and the bone conduction sensor.
