Spotify has introduced a new conversational experience that allows eligible Premium users to interact with the app using voice or text. The feature lets users control playback, discover music, learn more about songs and artists, explore podcasts and audiobooks, and revisit their listening history through natural conversations.
The new experience can be accessed from the Home screen and Now Playing view on Spotify’s mobile app. Users can tap the microphone button to speak or type a request and continue with follow-up questions or instructions as part of an ongoing conversation.

Control Playback & Discover New Music
The conversational experience allows users to ask Spotify to play music based on their preferences and refine recommendations through follow-up requests.
For example, users can ask Spotify to recommend artists they have not listened to before and then narrow down the results based on a particular mood or recent releases.
Users can also perform several playback and library actions directly through the conversation, including saving songs, adding tracks to the queue, and following artists.
Learn More About Songs & Artists
From the Now Playing screen, users can ask questions about the music they are currently listening to, including songs, albums, artists, and genres.
Spotify can provide information about a song’s background or inspiration, album releases, genres, related artists, and the creative process behind the music. Users can also continue asking follow-up questions to explore related sounds, artists, and stories.
Explore Podcasts & Audiobooks
The conversational experience also works with podcasts and audiobooks, allowing users to learn more about the people, stories, and topics connected to the content they are currently listening to.
For example, users can ask about other books written by an audiobook’s author or discover other podcasts featuring a particular guest.
Ask about your listening history
Spotify can also use a user’s listening activity to answer personalized questions about their music habits. This includes information from listening history, playlists, favorite artists, and frequently played tracks.
Users can ask when they first listened to a particular song, which genres they have recently explored, or find their most frequently played songs, artists, and genres.
Availability
Spotify’s new conversational experience is rolling out gradually in beta to Premium users aged 18 and above in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden.
The feature is currently available in English through the Spotify mobile apps for Android and iOS. Spotify notes that responses may not always be accurate during the beta phase and says feedback from users will be used to improve the experience over time.
