TECNO Mobile India has officially launched the TECNO POVA 8 5G in India, succeeding last year’s TECNO POVA 7 5G with significant upgrades in performance, battery life, connectivity, and AI-powered software experiences. The smartphone introduces a new triple-chip architecture, a massive 8,000 mAh battery, a 144 Hz display, and a customizable Alive Matrix Display on the rear panel. Other highlights include a 50 MP Sony LYT-600 sensor camera, MediaTek Dimensity 7100 SoC, and AI features.
Designed around the brand’s signature sci-fi-inspired aesthetic, the TECNO POVA 8 5G features geometric styling elements and a semi-transparent rear panel. One of the biggest highlights is the new Alive Matrix Display, an interactive lighting panel integrated into the back of the phone.
The customizable light panel supports up to 49 animation effects and can react to incoming calls, notifications, charging status, and gaming activities. Users can also personalize the lighting behavior according to their preferences.
On the front, the POVA 8 5G sports a large 6.76-inch Full HD+ flat LCD display (2,344 x 1,080 pixels resolution) with a 144 Hz refresh rate, offering smoother animations, scrolling, and gaming performance. The panel also carries TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification to reduce eye strain during prolonged usage.
The company says the device is built with military-grade durability, providing additional protection against everyday wear and accidental drops. The device comes in 16-Bit White and Terminal Green color options.
For photography, the smartphone features a 50 MP primary rear camera powered by Sony’s LYT-600 sensor. The camera is designed to improve light capture and image detail while also supporting 2x lossless zoom functionality. On the front, the device houses a 13 MP selfie camera for video calls, social media content, and portrait photography.
Battery life is one of the key highlights of the TECNO POVA 8 5G. The smartphone packs a massive 8,000 mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. According to the company, the battery can deliver:
- Over 85 hours of music playback
- More than 29 hours of YouTube streaming
- Over 26 hours of WhatsApp usage
- More than 14 hours of continuous MLBB gaming
The company claims the battery can comfortably provide up to two days of usage on a single charge.
Powering the POVA 8 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 octa-core SoC, paired with two proprietary in-house chips that enhance connectivity performance. To keep thermals under control, the smartphone incorporates a large 15,000 mm² graphite cooling system for efficient heat dissipation during gaming and intensive workloads.
The dedicated G1 Signal Enhancement Chip is designed to maintain stronger cellular connectivity in challenging environments such as elevators, underground parking areas, and basements. Meanwhile, the SE1 Wi-Fi Enhancement Chip improves Wi-Fi reception and stability.
The TECNO POVA 8 5G arrives with Android 16-based HiOS 16 and includes several AI-powered productivity and media tools. Key AI features include:
- AI YouTube Summary for generating concise video summaries with timestamps
- AI Noise Cancellation for clearer voice calls and recordings
- AI LightMaster 2.0 for removing reflections, shadows, and lens flares from images
- Instagram Live Photo to Boomerang support
- AI Health facial scanning technology in select markets
TECNO is also promising 2 major Android OS updates and 3 years of security updates for the device. Additionally, buyers will receive 3 years of complimentary 256 GB cloud storage, while eligible markets will also receive a 3-month Google AI Plus subscription with 2 TB cloud storage.
Commenting on the launch, Arijeet Talapatra, CEO, TECNO Mobile India, said, “Most smartphones today are designed to blend into the background. POVA 8 was created for people who were never interested in the background to begin with. From the ALIVE Matrix lighting and cyberpunk-inspired design to the massive 8000mAh battery and triple-chipset connectivity – every element of POVA 8 is built to challenge convention. With POVA 8, we are not introducing another smartphone. We are giving consumers a bold new way to Delete Normal.”
