The company says the app retains essential features such as caller ID, spam and fraud call blocking, call history, contacts, and number search while occupying around 10MB of storage.
Truecaller Lite Features
According to the company, Truecaller Lite is a separate native Android app built from the ground up for smartphones with limited memory and processing power. It focuses on essential calling and spam protection features while using less storage, memory, and mobile data than the main app.
Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said the company developed the app in response to requests from users with older and entry-level Android smartphones who either lacked sufficient storage for the main app or experienced performance issues.
The Lite version provides caller identification, allowing users to identify incoming callers before answering. It also supports spam and fraud call blocking, call history, contacts, and number search.
Similar to the main app, Truecaller Lite includes an after-call screen that displays information about the caller after incoming and outgoing calls.
Same Caller Database & Spam Protection
Truecaller says the Lite version uses the same caller database and detection systems as the main app and follows the same privacy standards. According to the company, protection against spam and fraud calls remains the same across both applications.
The reduced app size is intended to make these core features more accessible to users with older or entry-level smartphones without requiring as much storage and memory.
Features Not Available In Truecaller Lite
To keep the application small and fast, Truecaller has excluded some features available in its main app. These include:
- Messaging
- Voicemail
- Family Protection
- AI assistant
The Lite version is focused primarily on caller identification and spam protection rather than offering the full range of communication and additional features available in the main application.
