Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleTruecaller has launched Truecaller Scam Checker, a new tool available through its website and mobile app that allows users to check potentially fraudulent phone numbers, web links and scam-related information before interacting with them. The new feature expands Truecaller’s scam protection tools beyond its traditional caller identification and spam blocking features.
The Scam Checker brings multiple fraud detection capabilities into a single interface, combining Truecaller’s detection systems with community reports and its ScamFeed database. Users can search suspicious numbers or URLs and also look up common scam types to find related reports and information from other users.
Check Suspicious Links Before Opening Them
The tool includes a Link Verification feature that allows users to paste a web address and check whether it is considered safe, suspicious or associated with a scam. Truecaller says its URL checks use multiple signals, including community fraud reports, known phishing databases and domain information.
Depending on the result, users can also see information such as the type of scam associated with a URL, redirects, the final destination of the link, domain ownership and domain registration details.
Search Phone Numbers for Potential Fraud
Scam Checker also allows users to enter a phone number and check its potential risk. The system combines Truecaller’s automated detection infrastructure with information from its user community to identify numbers that may be associated with scams.
According to Truecaller’s Scam Checker FAQ, users can view Safe or Potential Fraud results without logging into a Truecaller account. Additional information, such as the name associated with a phone number, requires the Truecaller app.
ScamFeed Brings Community Reports
Another part of Scam Checker is ScamFeed, Truecaller’s community-based platform where users can report and discuss scam attempts. Scam Checker can surface related community posts when users search for a particular number, URL or scam type.
This allows users to see reports from people who may have encountered similar scams and understand the tactics being used. Truecaller notes that ScamFeed includes user-generated content, which may not always be independently verified.
Search for Scam Types and Suspicious Situations
The Scam Checker can also be used to search for common scam types and related reports, rather than checking only individual phone numbers or URLs. Truecaller says users can search for a type of scam and view related community posts from its global scam database.
The company also plans to expand the tool with additional capabilities, including screenshot analysis, user authentication and broader monitoring of emerging fraud techniques, according to the supplied launch information.
