Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleZEE5 has partnered with Google Cloud to introduce Clips, an AI-powered vertical video experience designed to change how viewers discover movies and shows on the streaming platform. The feature automatically identifies engaging moments from ZEE5’s long-form content library and turns them into short, swipeable vertical videos.

Instead of functioning as a separate short-video platform, Clips is designed as a content discovery layer for ZEE5. Viewers can watch a short scene and directly move to the corresponding full-length movie or series when they want to continue watching. Early viewing behavior is showing movement from Clips to full-length content, according to the companies.

How ZEE5 Clips Uses AI

Clips was developed jointly by the ZEE5 and Google Cloud teams and combines multiple AI and machine learning technologies to process ZEE5’s existing catalogue.

The system uses Gemini Pro, the Chirp multilingual model, Google Cloud Vision API and deep learning models for image processing. These technologies work together to analyze movies and shows, identify moments that could work as engaging standalone clips and convert the selected content into a vertical format.

The use of Chirp is particularly relevant for ZEE5’s multilingual catalogue, allowing the system to handle speech recognition and linguistic analysis across different regional languages.

The image-processing and vision systems then help prepare the selected footage for a vertical, mobile-friendly viewing format instead of requiring every clip to be manually edited.

Clips Turns Long-Form Content Into Swipeable Videos

ZEE5 Clips is designed around a swipe-based discovery experience. Instead of scrolling through conventional static thumbnails and trailers, viewers can quickly sample actual moments from movies and shows.

If a particular clip catches their attention, they can move directly into the full-length title from the playback experience.

This gives ZEE5 another way to surface older or less immediately visible content from its catalogue while allowing viewers to decide what they want to watch based on actual scenes rather than just a title, poster or conventional trailer.

13,000 Clips Generated From 1,200 Titles

ZEE5 says the technology has already been used to generate 13,000 Clips from 1,200 titles.

The scale is significant because the system can create multiple discovery points from existing long-form content without requiring each piece of footage to go through a traditional manual editing workflow. ZEE5 says the early viewing behavior indicates that Clips can act as an entry point into deeper, full-length content consumption.

AI-Powered Content Discovery for ZEE5

With Clips, ZEE5 is moving beyond traditional content discovery methods such as static carousels and trailers. The platform is using AI to analyze its existing library and automatically surface moments that could attract viewers.

The approach also allows the same long-form catalogue to generate new discovery experiences at scale, potentially helping viewers find titles they may not have actively searched for.

Tejkarran Singh Bajaj, Business Head – ZEE5 India and AI & Innovation, said the feature puts compelling moments from ZEE5’s long-form catalogue into the swipe journey, while allowing the platform to create new entry points into thousands of hours of existing content through AI. Pramod Prakash, Chief Technology Officer at Zee Entertainment Enterprises, said the feature was built around making it easier for viewers to discover stories they may not have actively searched for. He added that ZEE5 has generated 13,000 Clips from 1,200 titles so far using Gemini AI, Speech-to-Text, and Cloud Vision API.

Overall, ZEE5 is positioning Clips as a bridge between short-form discovery and long-form streaming, using AI to turn existing movies and shows into more accessible entry points for viewers.

Tejkarran Singh Bajaj, Business Head – Zee 5 India and AI & Innovation, said, “At Zee 5, we are looking at content consumption differently, and Clips is a direct reflection of that. Developed in collaboration with Google Cloud, it puts the most compelling moments from our long form catalogue right into the swipe journey, giving audiences a quick way to find something that catches their attention. What makes this particularly exciting is the ability to turn thousands of hours of existing content into fresh entry points, at scale, using AI. The early traction shows us that when technology is applied with a clear understanding of how people consume content today, it can fundamentally change the way audiences find their next watch.”

Pramod Prakash, Chief Technology Officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “Clips was built around a simple audience need: making it easier for viewers to discover stories they may not have actively searched for. We are using AI to identify engaging moments within our long-form content and automatically transform them into short, vertical videos, creating a new and more intuitive way to enter the Zee 5 catalogue. The solution brings together the Gemini AI, Speech-to-Text and Cloud Vision API to process and package content at scale. We have generated 13,000 Clips from 1,200 titles so far, demonstrating what this technology can unlock across a large content library. Strategically, it gives us more ways to bring audiences from a moment of discovery into the full story.”

Amit Kumar, Managing Director, Digital Natives Business at Google Cloud India, said, “Our collaboration with Zee 5 on Clips is a great example of our deep partnership and it demonstrates how generative AI can drive measurable business value at scale. By leveraging Google Cloud’s advanced Gemini models, these joint AI innovations accelerate time-to-market for new platform features while continuously elevating the daily viewer experience.”
