We heard about the Nexus Launcher back in August which was expected to arrive with upcoming Nexus (now Pixel) smartphones. Well, that Nexus Launcher has now been renamed as Pixel Launcher by Google. This more or less confirms that Google will indeed market the upcoming Nexus smartphones as Pixel smartphones.
There were reports earlier this month which said Google will drop the Nexus branding and market the upcoming the smartphones as Pixel smartphones. What this means is that the Nexus Sailfish will be called Pixel whereas the Nexus Marlin will be called Pixel XL.
Leakster LlabTooFeR has shared details about the Pixel Launcher. There aren’t much changes to the Pixel Launcher that we saw previously as Nexus Launcher. However, the Calendar app icon now shows the current date instead of showing the last date of a month. Well, that’s nothing big, but it’s useful. Also, the navigation bar is now transparent.
The version in the Pixel Launcher is 7.1-3231428 which means that Pixel Launcher will come along with Android 7.1 Nougat update. However, at this point of time, we are not sure whether this will be availed to Nexus devices as well or will only be available to the upcoming Pixel smartphones. This also means that both the Pixel and Pixel XL might come with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.
