Anthropic has announced Claude Tag, a new collaborative AI experience for Slack that transforms Claude from an individual chatbot into a shared AI teammate. Available in public beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, Claude Tag allows teams to assign work directly to @Claude within Slack, enabling it to understand shared context, remember previous discussions, access approved enterprise tools, and complete complex tasks over extended periods.
According to Anthropic, Claude Tag represents the next evolution of Claude Code, making the AI more proactive and better suited for collaborative work. The company also revealed that approximately 65% of its own product team’s code is now written using its internal version of Claude Tag.
Claude Becomes a Shared AI Teammate
Unlike traditional AI assistants that operate through private conversations, Claude Tag functions as a shared collaborator inside Slack channels.
Users can simply mention @Claude within an authorized channel, after which the AI:
- Understands the full conversation thread
- Breaks complex tasks into multiple steps
- Posts a live checklist while working
- Shares results directly in the same Slack thread
Since Claude works at the channel level, everyone can view its progress, continue previous conversations, and build upon existing work without repeatedly providing context.
Designed for Team Collaboration
Anthropic says Claude Tag can assist with a wide range of workplace tasks, including:
- Summarizing lengthy Slack discussions
- Converting conversations into documents
- Reproducing software bugs
- Drafting pull requests
- Querying business reports
- Investigating support tickets
- Preparing meeting briefs
- Organizing project updates
- Monitoring Slack channels
- Surfacing tasks requiring human attention
Users can also communicate with Claude through direct messages. Unlike shared channels, direct messages utilize the user’s personal Claude account and connected services instead of the organization’s shared configuration.
Shared Memory Across Conversations
One of the biggest additions is Claude Tag’s ability to build long-term context.
With administrator approval, Claude continuously learns from:
- Slack channel history
- Previous discussions
- Team decisions
- Connected enterprise data
Anthropic says Claude only accesses information from channels and data sources it has permission to use, ensuring private conversations remain inaccessible unless explicitly authorized.
Optional Proactive AI
Claude Tag also introduces an optional Ambient Mode, allowing the AI to work proactively instead of waiting for user prompts.
When enabled, Claude can:
- Monitor ongoing conversations
- Highlight important updates
- Detect unresolved discussions
- Follow up on inactive threads
- Notify teams about relevant developments
- Tag users when decisions require attention
Anthropic says the feature is designed to support asynchronous collaboration across distributed teams.
Long-Running Tasks
Claude Tag is capable of handling projects that extend well beyond a single conversation.
The AI can:
- Continue working independently for hours or days
- Schedule future tasks
- Request clarification when needed
- Return with completed work
- Execute multiple delegated tasks simultaneously
Organizations can also provide standing instructions for recurring responsibilities such as generating reports, monitoring channels, or tracking urgent activity.
Enterprise Integrations
Claude Tag connects with enterprise platforms through Agent Identity, allowing it to securely access approved tools using organization-managed credentials.

Anthropic says additional API-based integrations can also be configured.
Enterprise Controls
Administrators retain full control over Claude’s capabilities and permissions.
Organizations can configure:
- Slack channel access
- Connected applications
- Code repositories
- Enterprise data sources
- Separate Claude identities for different teams
- Monthly spending limits
- Activity logs and audit history
Each Claude identity maintains its own memories, permissions, and connected resources, ensuring engineering, sales, and other departments remain isolated unless administrators explicitly grant access.
Anthropic Claude Tag Availability
Claude Tag is available today in public beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers using Slack.
The new experience replaces the existing Claude in Slack application, with organizations receiving a 30-day migration window. Anthropic is also offering introductory launch credits to eligible customers and says it plans to expand Claude Tag to additional workplace platforms in the future.
