FUJIFILM India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat, to explore semiconductor materials manufacturing opportunities in India. The agreement was announced during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held in Vadodara.

The partnership establishes a framework for FUJIFILM India to evaluate the feasibility of setting up a semiconductor materials manufacturing facility in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) while supporting the development of a localized semiconductor supply chain in the country.

Focus on Semiconductor Materials Manufacturing

As part of the collaboration, FUJIFILM India plans to work closely with government agencies, industry organizations, and private enterprises to assess manufacturing opportunities for semiconductor materials in India.

The company says the initiative aims to strengthen domestic production capabilities while supporting India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem and reducing reliance on imported materials used in semiconductor fabrication.

Supporting India’s Semiconductor Ambitions

The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ program, which focuses on expanding domestic manufacturing, strengthening supply chains, and attracting technology investments across strategic sectors.

According to the company, demand for semiconductors continues to grow across several industries, including:

  • Consumer electronics, including smartphones, computers, and smart devices
  • Automotive technologies such as electric vehicles (EVs) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
  • Telecommunications infrastructure, including 5G networks
  • Artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and data centers

By exploring local production of critical semiconductor materials, FUJIFILM India aims to contribute to India’s long-term goal of becoming a global semiconductor manufacturing hub.

Global Semiconductor Materials Expertise

FUJIFILM Electronic Materials currently operates more than 20 production facilities worldwide, supplying advanced chemicals and materials used throughout semiconductor manufacturing processes.

The company views India as an important long-term market and says the MoU represents the first step toward evaluating sustainable manufacturing opportunities that could support both domestic semiconductor production and the country’s broader technology ecosystem.

Further details regarding manufacturing plans or investment timelines have not yet been announced.
