Google has announced an expansion of Google Wallet with support for TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, allowing eligible travelers in the United States to pass through airport security using facial verification instead of presenting a physical ID or boarding pass.
Through its partnership with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Google Wallet becomes the first digital wallet to support TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, simplifying the airport security process for eligible travelers.
What is TSA PreCheck Touchless ID?
TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is a biometric identity verification system that uses secure facial comparison at airport security checkpoints.
Once enrolled, eligible travelers can move through supported TSA PreCheck lanes without showing a physical ID or boarding pass.
The service is currently available at select U.S. airports and supported by participating airlines.
Google Wallet Simplifies Enrollment
Previously, travelers had to manually upload passport information for each participating airline.
With the new Google Wallet integration, eligible users can complete the process directly from their boarding pass, bringing together their digital ID, boarding pass, and TSA verification into a single workflow.
This reduces repetitive setup and makes the experience more consistent across supported airlines.
How to Enable Touchless ID
Eligible users can activate the feature during flight check-in.
The setup process includes:
- Add a digital ID to Google Wallet using passport information (if not already added)
- Check in for the flight and save the boarding pass to Google Wallet
- Tap “Get started” if the Touchless ID option appears
- Approve secure sharing of identity and trip details with TSA
- Receive confirmation and a Touchless ID indicator on the boarding pass
Once enabled, travelers can use supported Touchless ID lanes at participating airport security checkpoints.
Privacy and Security
Google says the feature is designed with user privacy in mind.
Key security measures include:
- Explicit user opt-in before sharing any information
- Authentication using biometrics, PIN, or device unlock
- Digital IDs are encrypted and stored locally on the device
- Users remain in control of when identity information is shared with TSA
Availability
The Google Wallet integration with TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is rolling out over the coming weeks. The feature is available for eligible travelers using the TSA PreCheck program at participating airports and supported airlines across the United States.
