Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleInstagram has introduced First Draft, a new feature for Reels that automatically creates an initial video edit within the Instagram app. Users can select one or more clips and tap the First Draft button to quickly create a starting edit by trimming clips and removing pauses and silences. The feature is designed to simplify the initial editing process for creators, particularly for multi-clip montages, talking-head videos, and day-in-the-life content.
One-Tap Reel Editing
First Draft automatically analyzes selected footage and creates a preliminary edit within seconds.
For talking-head videos, the feature can detect pauses and silences and trim them from the footage. Users can then review the generated edit before moving to Instagram’s full Reel editor or publishing it directly.
The feature is also designed to keep creators in control. All changes made by First Draft are reversible, allowing users to reorder, remove, or adjust individual clips or start the edit again from scratch.
How To Use Instagram First Draft
There are two ways to access First Draft:
- Existing clips: Open the Reels gallery, select one or more clips, tap First Draft at the bottom of the screen, review the automatically generated edit, and continue to the full editor or publish.
- Newly recorded content: Open the Instagram camera, record the content, tap First Draft, review the edit, and continue to the full Reel editor.
First Draft is integrated directly into Instagram’s Reels creation workflow, so users do not need to move their footage to a separate editing application for the initial edit.
Availability
Instagram First Draft is currently available only on iOS. Instagram has not announced availability for Android yet.
