Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on Google
WhatsApp has announced a series of new security updates designed to strengthen account protection, expand authentication options, and help users identify potentially unwanted or fraudulent calls. The updates include support for multiple passkeys on a single account, enhanced two-step verification with alphanumeric passwords, and new caller context for calls from unknown numbers on Android.

Multiple Passkeys For One WhatsApp Account
WhatsApp is expanding passkey support by allowing users to add multiple passkeys to a single account.
Passkeys allow users to authenticate using biometric methods such as a fingerprint or facial recognition, or their device’s screen lock, instead of relying on SMS verification codes.
The new multi-passkey support is particularly useful for people who use WhatsApp across multiple devices or platforms, including both Android and iOS.
Users can configure their passkeys through Settings > Account > Passkeys.
WhatsApp said more than one billion users now use passkeys for authentication.
Stronger Two-Step Verification
WhatsApp is also enhancing its two-step verification system.
Previously, users were limited to a six-digit numerical PIN. The updated system allows users to create alphanumeric passwords, including passwords containing special characters.
The expanded password format provides greater complexity and is designed to improve protection against brute-force attempts and account takeover.
Caller Context For Unknown Numbers
WhatsApp is adding additional information for calls from unsaved contacts on Android.
When an unknown number calls, WhatsApp can display contextual information before the user answers, including:
- Country code or origin: Shows the country associated with the incoming number.
- Mutual groups: Indicates whether the caller and recipient share any WhatsApp groups.
The additional information is designed to help users assess unfamiliar callers and potentially identify suspicious or scam-related calls before answering.
End-to-End Encryption
The new security features complement WhatsApp’s existing end-to-end encryption, which protects personal messages and calls on the platform.
The latest updates are aimed at giving users additional ways to secure their accounts while providing more context when receiving calls from unknown contacts.
