Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleGoogle has announced a new set of Android updates focused on cross-platform file sharing, simplified device migration, and more secure messaging between Android and iOS devices. The updates introduce AirDrop-compatible Quick Share support, an improved iPhone-to-Android switching experience, and end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging across platforms. The company says these changes are designed to make Android devices work more seamlessly alongside iPhones while improving privacy and reducing friction during device transfers.
Android Quick Share Now Works with iOS Devices
One of the biggest highlights is the expansion of Quick Share, Google’s native file-sharing system. The feature now supports AirDrop-compatible sharing on select Android smartphones, allowing users to quickly transfer photos, videos, and files directly between Android and iOS devices.
Initially, the feature is rolling out on supported Google Pixel smartphones, with broader availability planned later this year for devices from Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, vivo, Xiaomi, and HONOR.
For Android phones that do not support native AirDrop compatibility, Quick Share can generate a QR code that allows iPhone users to instantly download files through cloud-based sharing.
Google also confirmed that Quick Share integration will soon expand to selected third-party apps, including WhatsApp.

Easier iPhone-to-Android Transfer
Google says it has also worked with Apple to redesign the migration experience for users switching from iPhone to Android. The updated wireless transfer system is designed to simplify data migration and reduce setup time during device switching.
The upgraded transfer process now supports:
- Passwords
- Photos
- Messages
- Favorite apps
- Contacts
- Homescreen layouts
- eSIM data
Google says the updated migration flow with eSIM transfer support will first launch on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices later this year.
Android & iPhone RCS Chats Now Support End-to-End Encryption
Google has also announced end-to-end encryption support for RCS conversations between Android and iPhone users. The update improves privacy and security for cross-platform messaging by encrypting messages directly between devices.
According to Google, around 2.5 billion RCS messages are currently sent daily based on the average over the past 28 days. The company says the new encrypted RCS support will allow Android and iOS users to communicate more securely while maintaining richer messaging features compared to traditional SMS.
Availability
Google says the QR-based Quick Share feature begins rolling out to all Android smartphones starting today and will become widely available over the next month. The enhanced iPhone-to-Android migration tools with eSIM support are expected to launch later this year, initially on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices.
