SanDisk has announced an exclusive partnership with Meta to provide flash storage solutions for the company’s upcoming VR glasses, which are scheduled to launch in spring 2027. The partnership will bring dedicated storage accessories into Meta’s official “Made for Meta” ecosystem, with products designed and certified specifically for the upcoming headset.
The lineup will include SanDisk microSD Express memory cards and USB-C flash drives, developed in collaboration with Meta. These accessories are designed to meet the storage performance requirements of VR games, applications, and immersive media, offering additional storage options for compatible devices.
SanDisk Storage Accessories For Meta VR Glasses
The new product lineup includes microSD Express memory cards and USB-C flash drives. According to the announcement, the storage hardware has been tested and certified specifically for the upcoming headset to address its read and write performance requirements.
The accessories are intended to support expanding libraries of virtual reality games, applications, and immersive content. However, specific storage capacities, transfer speeds, and pricing have not been detailed in the announcement.
Made For Meta Certification
The storage products will be part of Meta’s “Made for Meta” accessory ecosystem. Under this program, third-party accessories must meet Meta’s operational and build-quality benchmarks before receiving certification.
The testing process is intended to verify sustained data transfer performance and plug-and-play compatibility across supported VR software environments. The collaboration aims to provide accessories designed to work with the upcoming headset rather than relying on unverified third-party storage options.
Regarding this, Susan Park, vice president, product management, Consumer Products at Sandisk, said, “We are thrilled to be the exclusive storage provider to help Meta power the future of virtual reality. Sandisk’s high-performance microSD Express memory cards integrate seamlessly with new Meta VR Glasses offering immediate access to additional storage capacity, allowing users to fully enjoy their favorite premium media and entertainment content.”
Availability
The SanDisk storage accessories are scheduled to launch alongside Meta’s upcoming VR glasses in spring 2027. They are expected to be available in retail markets where the headset is officially sold.
SanDisk and Meta have not yet announced the products’ prices, available storage capacities, or detailed technical specifications.
