Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on Google
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature in the official Aadhaar mobile app that allows residents to add or update their email address directly from their smartphones. The move eliminates the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre for email address updates and is aimed at improving convenience and digital accessibility.
The new service became available from 1st July 2026 and will remain free for a limited period of 6 months on both Android and iOS devices.

Update Email Address Directly From the Aadhaar App
With the latest update, Aadhaar users can now add or modify their registered email address directly through the official mobile application.
The service is:
- Available from 1st July 2026
- Free for 6 months
- Supported on Android and iOS
According to UIDAI, the initiative is part of the government’s Digital India vision to make essential identity services more accessible through secure digital platforms.
More than 250,000 Updates Completed in Two Days
UIDAI says the feature has seen strong initial adoption, with over 250,000 email address updates completed within the first 48 hours of its rollout.
Registering an email address with Aadhaar provides several benefits, including:
- Real-time email alerts for Aadhaar authentication requests
- Improved transparency by tracking identity usage
- An additional security layer to help detect unauthorized authentication attempts
Growing Adoption of Aadhaar Self-Service Features
The Aadhaar app already offers several self-service options, allowing users to manage their information without visiting enrolment centres.
According to UIDAI, the app has processed:
| Service | Updates completed |
|---|---|
| Mobile number updates | Over 4 million |
| Address updates | Around 1 million |
| Email address updates | Over 250,000 (first 48 hours) |
Availability
The free email update feature is available through the latest version of the official Aadhaar app for Android and iOS. UIDAI recommends users update their contact information during the six-month free period to continue receiving email notifications related to Aadhaar authentication and account activity.
