Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleMicrosoft is introducing a new Xbox feature that will allow players to claim digital versions of supported physical games, bridging the gap between disc-based ownership and digital access. The feature is designed to make existing physical game libraries more flexible across modern Xbox hardware and supported cloud services. The new functionality will begin testing with members of the Xbox Insider Program from 31st August 2026.

How Xbox Disc-To-Digital Works
The feature initially supports most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc releases. Players can claim the digital entitlement directly through a compatible console.
The process works as follows:
- Insert the disc: Insert a supported physical game disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console.
- Verify ownership: Launching the game prompts the system to verify the physical copy and add the digital entitlement to the player’s account.
- Access digitally: Once claimed, supported games can be accessed digitally, including through Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming where available.
- Keep using the disc: The original physical disc remains usable as a standard disc copy even after the digital entitlement has been claimed.
Thousands Of Games Supported
Microsoft says the feature will launch with thousands of supported games across the Xbox catalogue, with additional titles expected to be added over time.
However, some third-party and legacy titles may not initially qualify for the disc-to-digital conversion.
The move is also aimed at improving game preservation and backward compatibility, allowing players to retain access to older physical libraries as gaming increasingly shifts toward digital distribution and cloud-based platforms.
Xbox Insider Testing Starts 31st August
The disc-to-digital feature will initially be available to selected members of the Xbox Insider Program for testing.
Microsoft is seeking feedback from participating users through its Xbox Insider feedback channels as it evaluates the feature before a wider rollout.
Players interested in joining the testing programme can install the Xbox Insider Hub on supported Xbox consoles or Windows PCs.
