Samsung Galaxy S5: Hands On [Images]

Samsung has finally launched its Galaxy S5 handset in India with a plush price tag, which Samsung says will be between Rs. 51,000 – 53,000. We were there at the official launch of the handset and got to play with the device for some time. Here are some hands on images of the device along with little snippets of our opinion on it.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is closer to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rather than its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S4 in terms of design. Why shouldn’t it be? The device has gotten bigger and more textured.

Samsung hasn’t exactly abandoned the plastic form factor But it has given this phone a premium feel by putting in textured front and back, chrome on sides and kept it pretty light at 145g.

The phone is IP67 certified, which means its USB slot is closed, so as to prevent water damage.

As you already know, the back is textured with embossed dots, which might not sit pretty (Dare we say, even ugly), but make the handset a pleasure to hold (hand massage, anyone?).

Samsung claims to have put in a new UX in the Galaxy S5, but we don’t see much changes, apart from the softer and more detailed Settings menu.

As we already know, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is endowed with fitness features. It has the S Health app, something we first saw on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 last year, along with a built-in heart rate sensor located just below the rear camera, making it the world’s first smartphone to have one.

Besides this it also has fingerprint scanner built into the device, just like the iPhone in the home button. Unlike Apple, it supports third party apps.

The handset looks pretty attractive from the front though with its 2-megapixel front came located at the top and Open apps and back keys located at the bottom.
